The Story Behind the Piece

These Handmade Paper Mache Earrings are more than adornments—they are poetic meditations on resilience and radiance. Made from papie-mâché and crowned with high-quality crystal stones, each piece evokes a regal aura while remaining deeply personal. The broken mirror inlays are cut by hand, echoing the intricate mirrorwork of traditional Iranian architecture, where light dances through fractured surfaces to illuminate sacred spaces. This technique is not just decorative—it’s symbolic. It reminds us that beauty often emerges from brokenness.

The inscription on one earring reads: “So what of our wounds? Light enters through these very wounds.” This whisper of truth transforms the earrings into wearable poetry. The inner tile motifs, inspired by Safavid and Qajar-era ceramics, feature rich blues, golds, and yellows—colors that once adorned palaces and mosques, now reframed as intimate declarations of strength. These earrings are ideal for those who seek meaning in their style, and who wear their stories with pride.

Meet the Artist

My name is Helia Dashtaray. In 2012, I graduated in Literature and Italian Translator from the University of Tehran. In 2013, I started working in marquetry art and In 2014 became familiar with papier-mâché art. I am currently active in sculpture, paintings, and handmade accessories using papier-mâché / paper mache art. My experiences in sculpture, marquetry, design, crochet, handmade paper making, thread and needle art, quilling, as well as origami from my childhood, have helped me in designing and creating accessories. I have endeavored to bring diversity to papier-mâché earrings, using fabric, printed paper, handmade paper, leather and gemstones.... Papier-mâché accessories, due to their paper material, have vibrant colors, are waterproof, and draw inspiration from the world of fashion and nature. I'm glad that through paper recycling, I can contribute to environmental conservation. I hope to introduce more people to papier-mâché art through my students and my YouTube channel(helias_art) I have two artistic brands: Helias_art for sculpture and home decor with papier-mâché, and Helia.dashtaray for handmade accessory making, including earrings, clutch bags, rings, necklaces, and bracelets.
